After my 1st novel i thought of reading 2nd novel. And in it someway my 1st novel was a guide. I had 3 options - Autobiography of great american Benjamin Franklin, My expts with truth- M.K. Gandhi and the alchemist by Paulo Coelho. Because in last book there names were mentioned. So I decided to read the alchemist, the reason for that was it being shortest.
This is Paulo Coelho's most famous novel. It was mainly written in
porteguese. It deals with spirituality. In this novel the main character
Santiago, an Andalusion shepherd sees a dream of worldly treasure
in Egyptian pyramids and finally guided by the Gypsy fortuneteller
and the king goes in the search of it. So he leaves Spain and
travel through Arab area where the money he had was stolen.
Finally he works in a crystal shop and learns to read the omens.
And later he meets the alchemist who guides him closer to his target, i.e. treasures burried in
the Pyramids of Egypts. That was it. In the search of the worldly treasure he comes to know
what his actual destination was.
There are many marvelous quotes in the book :
What's the world's greatest lie?" the boy asked, completely surprised. (from the king)
"It's this: that at a certain point in our lives, we lose control of what's happening to us, and our lives become controlled by fate. That's the world's greatest lie."
When you want something, all the universe conspires to help you achieve it.
We are afraid of losing what we have, whether it’s our life or our possessions and property. But this fear evaporates when we understand that our life stories and the history of the world were written by the same hand.
If a person is living out his destiny, he knows everything he needs to know. There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.
It also talks about the concepts universal language and Soul of the world. Also it tells about alchemy when the alchemist converts lead to gold using Philospher's stone.
Overall one should keep this book in his personal library and i enjoyed the book v.much.
